How to make a poker training video:

Step 1: Download The Software
Go to http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp and download the free 30-day trial version of Camtasia. This is the best screen recording software available.

Step 2: Install Camtasia
This should be simple enough, there is nothing special about installing the software.

Step 3: Camtasia Set Up

After installing Camtasia, open it up. You will see a window that says "Welcome to Camtasia - you've got 30 days left". Select the default option, "I would like to evaluate Camtasia studio" and click finish.

The main screen comes up with another smaller window that asks what you'd like to do. Click "Record The Screen".
click record the screen

The main program will now minimize and the screen recording software will now appear. At this point, you can adjust the size of screen capture and position on your monitor. You can also define a specific size in pixels by typing that in to the dimensions boxes.

Click "Capture" in the menu and make sure "Record Audio" is selected unless you plan to add commentary later.

To verify your microphone is working properly, click "Tools" in the menu, and then "Options". Select the "Audio" tab. Now you can select your microphone, and test to make sure it is working. A simple Logitech USB Microphone works very well for adding audio. Most PCs have a built in microphone, which is not recommended due to poor quality.

Test your microphone before recording.

Step 4: Recording The Video
Recording a video is as simple as clicking record. Use pause to take a break. The stop button completely ends your video. After you end your video, it will take a moment to save into a .camrec file and camtasia will automatically play the video back for you. Take a few minutes to check the audio and make sure everything sounds ok.

Step 5: Producing The Video

We recommend you save the video in .WMV format. This produces the best results in terms of both quality and low file size.

To save your video as a .WMV, we recommend the following steps:
  • Open your .camrec file
  • Right click on the thumbnail of your video and "add to timeline"
  • Select "recording dimensions" on the popup that appears.
  • If you wish to even out the audio volume levels, which makes for a better video, right click on the timeline and select "audio enhancements". Here you should remove noise and also even out the volume levels to "low volume variation". Both of these settings produce better sound quality for your video.
Follow all the steps on the left to make a great poker training video.

  • Now click "produce video as" on the left.
  • On the next popup select "custom production settings"
  • Next select WMV-windows media video
  • Next select "camtasia studio best quality and file size (recommended)"
  • Now choose "custom size" and make sure "maintain aspect ratio" is checked
  • The next screen should say "video options" at the top. Nothing should be checked on this screen.
  • Click next and you will be at "video marker" options. Click next here.
  • Finally, the last screen allows you to choose a filename for your video (don't worry you can change this later). If you wish, you can select preview and Camtasia will produce the first 2 minutes of your video (only takes a few minutes) and you can check the quality before producing the entire video.
  • Click finish and Camtasia will produce your video into a nice .WMV format video for upload to Smart Poker Training.

Uploading Your Video to Smart Poker Training:

Uploading your video is very easy. Just follow these simple steps:

  • Log in to your account and click "upload video"
  • Fill the video details including title, keywords, description (up to 1000 characters), categories, and cost (whole number 1, 2, 3, 10, etc.)
  • Select whether you want your video to be only viewable as a streaming online video, only downloadable, or both.
  • To upload a free sample video, you must have already uploaded 1 paid video for each sample video, otherwise this option will not be available.
  • "Upload in a group" allows you to upload more than 1 video and sell them all for the same price. For example, if you want to sell a 3 part PLO series and sell all 3 videos for $20, use the upload in a group option. Otherwise, select no.
  • Now you can browse your hard drive for your video and click upload. Please be patient and do not navigate away from the upload page.
  • Next you will be asked to upload a thumbnail image for your video. If you don't have one, you can skip this step and we will produce one from your video. To make your own, you can use VLC Media Player to take a snapshot of your video.
  • Finally, we will check your video for picture and audio quality and post your video as soon as possible. Please allow 24-48 hours for this process. Send an email to support@smartpokertraining.com with any questions.

Pricing Your Video to Smart Poker Training:

Many coaches are unsure of what to price their videos at. There are no standard prices that you must choose. The following is a rough guide for video pricing based on the game type and limits:

Cash Games

$25 NL and under $1 to $4
$50-100 NL $3 to $10
$200-$600 NL $6 to $20
$1000 NL+ $10+

Tournaments

$10 and under $1 to $4
$15-25 $3 to $10
$30-$100 $6 to $20
$200+ $10+

Clearly, there is some overlap in this pricing guide. The truth is that the price you set is completely up to you! Whatever you feel your knowledge is worth, you should sell your video for. Remember that only players who purchase your video get access to it, unlike other training websites where every member sees every video. We pay for every single user who wants to learn from you.

If you have any questions about pricing videos, please email support@smartpokertraining.com
